From the People Who Know the Work Best

Brought in my grandfather's manual-wind watch — a piece that hadn't moved in about fifteen years. The intake process was thorough and they were upfront about what they found before starting anything. It took just under a month, which felt appropriate given the condition. The watch now keeps time within a few seconds per day. The photographic record they shared was a genuine surprise; I wasn't expecting that level of documentation.

Had the crystal replaced on my dive watch along with the full gasket set. They were clear that the original crystal was a specific mineral grade and sourced the right replacement rather than a generic substitute. The pressure test certificate they provided was helpful for my own records. The timeline ran a few days longer than initially indicated, but they messaged to let me know before it became an issue. Would go back.

My ETA-based watch was running about eight seconds slow per day and the power reserve felt shorter than usual. They identified a worn mainspring and a couple of components that needed relubrication. The Witschi results they shared showed it was running within two seconds across all positions after service. That level of transparency is unusual and appreciated. The price was fair for the scope of work.

I had some reservations about leaving a watch worth a significant amount with any workshop, but the written intake process they use made the arrangement feel more considered than I expected. They called me when they found some corrosion inside the case back that would affect the scope of work, and explained the options clearly before doing anything additional. Respect that they didn't just proceed and bill me later.

Simple sapphire crystal replacement after a drop — the original cracked at the edge. They sourced a correct-fit replacement and had it done within eight days. Small thing, but they noticed the crown gasket was worn and asked whether I'd like it replaced while they had the case open. That kind of attentiveness is what makes the difference. Straightforward job, handled well.

Came to Wira Chronos after a less satisfactory experience elsewhere — my watch had been serviced by another workshop and was still losing around twelve seconds a day after collection. The team here identified that the escapement hadn't been correctly regulated and that one pallet stone had chips. The subsequent service resolved the issue. A more thorough result than I'd experienced before.

Case Study — Comprehensive Restoration
A 1974 Swiss manual-wind watch, inherited and long stored
Challenge
The watch had been stored for approximately two decades without winding or service. The movement would not run at all. The case showed significant oxidation on the case back, the crystal had a deep impact scratch, and the original strap had deteriorated beyond use.
Approach
The owner requested conservation rather than full refinishing — the brushed surfaces were to be preserved. The movement was disassembled, cleaned, and rebuilt with a replacement mainspring and several worn pallet jewels. The crystal was replaced with a period-appropriate flat acrylic. Case cleaning was confined to the interior and the case back, leaving the exterior finish intact.
Outcome
The watch returned to daily use within eleven weeks. It was regulated to within four seconds per day across six positions. The owner received the full photographic record of the process and noted that the watch looked largely as it had when last worn by the original owner — which had been the explicit objective.
"I didn't want it made to look new. I wanted it made to work again. That's exactly what happened."

Case Study — Mechanical Calibre Care
A Swiss automatic watch due its first service after six years
Situation
The owner observed the watch was losing around six seconds per day and the power reserve felt slightly shorter than usual. No impact or moisture exposure had occurred. The watch had been purchased new and had not been serviced since.
Approach
Full disassembly and ultrasonic cleaning confirmed that lubricants had degraded across several friction surfaces. The mainspring remained within tolerance. After reassembly with correct lubrication, the movement was regulated across six positions over four days.
Outcome
The watch was returned with a Witschi timing result showing it running between +1 and +3 seconds per day across positions — within the manufacturer's specification. The owner also received a recommendation for the next service interval based on the condition observed.
Case Study — Crystal & Seal Service
A sport watch with a cracked crystal and compromised seal system
Situation
The crystal had cracked following a knock against a hard surface. The owner also reported the watch had been used for swimming and was concerned about whether the integrity of the seal had been compromised. The gaskets had not been replaced in over three years.
Approach
The crystal was replaced with a sapphire of the correct grade and specification. All gaskets — case back, crown tube, crystal seat — were replaced. Dry pressure testing confirmed integrity before wet testing was performed to the watch's stated water resistance rating.
Outcome
Completed in nine days. The owner received a written pressure test certificate. The watch was confirmed water-resistant to its original specification and has been used regularly for swimming since return without issue. The owner has booked a seal renewal for two years hence.
