Request a Service AssessmentOur Services
Three Pathways of Workshop Care
Each service is structured around what the watch actually requires — not a fixed menu, but a considered response to its present condition.
Mechanical Calibre Care
A thorough service pathway for mechanical movements: full disassembly, ultrasonic cleaning, lubrication, regulation across multiple positions, and multi-day amplitude testing on a Witschi timing apparatus.
- Written intake examination
- High-magnification component inspection
- Mainspring evaluation & replacement if needed
- Rate stability testing over several days
Crystal Replacement & Sealing
Addresses damaged sapphire, mineral, or acrylic crystals alongside the full gasket system. Includes case-back, crown, pusher, and crystal-seat gasket renewal, followed by dry and wet pressure testing.
- Sapphire, mineral, or acrylic options
- Vintage crystal preservation where preferred
- Full gasket renewal throughout
- Written pressure test result provided
Comprehensive Restoration
A multi-stage programme for watches requiring attention beyond routine servicing — stored pieces, impact-damaged references, or those received without service history. The owner is consulted at each significant decision point.
- Movement overhaul + case & bracelet refinishing
- Dial inspection & hand conservation
- Photographic record throughout
- 8–14 week programme timeline
Why Wira Chronos
A Workshop Built on Patience and Precision
Unhurried Assessment
Every piece receives a written intake examination before any work begins. Nothing is assumed; everything is documented.
Calibrated Regulation
Movements are regulated across five or six positions on a Witschi timing apparatus, with rate stability verified over several days.
Pressure-Tested Sealing
All seal work is followed by dry and wet pressure testing appropriate to the watch's rating. A written test result accompanies every return.
Owner Consultation
For restoration work, significant decisions — particularly around refinishing versus conservation — are shared with the owner before proceeding.
Photographic Record
A photographic record is maintained throughout the restoration programme and shared with the owner upon completion.
Realistic Timelines
Service timelines are communicated clearly and honestly — not compressed at the expense of the work, and not prolonged unnecessarily.
Is Your Timepiece Due for a Service Assessment?
Whether your watch has been running for some time without attention, shows a change in accuracy, or has come to you from a previous custodian — a conversation is the natural starting point. We are glad to advise without obligation.
Questions
What Clients Often Ask
How do I know if my watch needs a mechanical service?
Accuracy drift, a shortened power reserve, unusual sounds from the movement, or simply approaching the manufacturer's recommended service interval are all reasonable reasons to have the calibre examined. A watch that has been stored for several years is also worth checking before regular use.
What is the typical turnaround time for a mechanical calibre service?
A standard mechanical calibre service generally takes three to five weeks, which includes the post-regulation rate testing period. Crystal replacement and sealing work is typically completed within one to two weeks. The comprehensive restoration programme runs eight to fourteen weeks depending on parts availability and the depth of intervention required.
Do you work on all watch brands, including vintage pieces?
We work with a broad range of mechanical movements across Swiss, German, and Japanese manufacturers, including vintage references. For pieces with unusual or scarce components, we will communicate clearly about parts availability and any implications for the scope or timeline of work.
How is pricing determined, and will I receive a quote before work begins?
Pricing is based on the service pathway selected and the specific condition of the watch. After the intake examination, we will provide a clear written assessment of the work involved and the associated cost before proceeding. No intervention takes place without your agreement.
What happens to a restored watch's original patina or finish?
This is precisely the kind of decision we discuss with you before acting. Some owners wish to preserve original surfaces and patina for collector reasons; others prefer a fuller refinishing. We do not assume which approach is appropriate — we ask, and we proceed only on your instruction.
Is my watch covered against damage while in your care?
Watches in our workshop are treated with care appropriate to their nature and value. We maintain full professional responsibility for each piece in our custody and will always discuss any unexpected findings with you promptly. Please speak with us directly for details on our handling policy for high-value references.
